At midnight, the goal is not to rewrite the entire project. It is to protect a working baseline, identify the highest-value requirements and make each change verifiable.
A copied patch you cannot explain may fail in the demo or create an academic-integrity issue. A smaller, tested implementation with honest limitations is usually safer.
